Summer Solstice Burton Barr Central Library

A little after 12:30 pm (Solar noon on this particular day) people at the Burton Barr Central Library in downtown phoenix watched as sunshine flooded the west wall and lit up the tops of the columns like 'flames' atop of the candle-like columns. It was not what I would have considered a 'phenomenon' event. To be honest, I didn't see it. I was really kind of miffed because I thought I had missed the whole event. I had to go back to work and jump on line to see what I was suppose to be seeing. Luckily I had taken photos without really knowing that I had captured the summer solstice. Note to self: Do a little more research before rushing off to see a 'Summer Solstice'.

Here is what the 'flames' atop of the candle-like columns look like.

Do you see it?

  2. How interesting! That would have been fun to check out. Do columns get "flames" or some other effect for the Winter and other solstice?
